They were the third-place finalists on CMT’s series Can You Duet in 2008, where they captured America’s heart along with the hearts of the 3 judges. Shortly after the competition, they were signed to the independent labels Vanguard and Sugar Hill Records. Their debut single, “Cheater, Cheater” was originally recorded by the duo Bomshel, whose own version failed to chart earlier in 2008. Joey and Rory’s version of the song was released in August 2008, featuring a music video that has a cameo from Naomi Judd.
