Chuck Loeb,

In the span of his prolific career that stretches across more than four decades, he has recorded and performed in countless corners of the world, forever balancing the bedrock elements of traditional jazz with the innovations of contemporary jazz. His ambitious schedule frequently takes him from his home in the U.S. to countless points on the map throughout Europe, Asia and beyond – places where the perceptions of his music in particular and jazz in general can vary greatly. Clearly, Loeb is an artist and musician who lives in more than one world, and moves with confidence among and between all of them.

His new album, Between 2 Worlds , is set for worldwide release on March 24, 2009, on Heads Up International, a division of Concord Music Group. The recording is a collection of material culled from sessions on either side of the Atlantic. The first seven tracks were cut in New York and the remaining four in Berlin. Regardless of points on a map, though, the two worlds that Loeb straddles on the album are more conceptual than geographical. Between 2 Worlds dispenses with much of the technology of his previous recordings and instead focuses on the basic trio of guitar, bass and drums.

Track List

1. Let’s Go 6:48
2. Hiram 5:46
3. Mittens 6:43
4. Between 2 Worlds 5:37

Sixto Diaz Rodriguez ,

(also known as Rodriguez or as Jesus Rodriguez) is a US folk musician, born in Detroit, Michigan on July 10, 1942(1942-07-10). He was named ‘Sixto’ (pronounced sees-to) because he was the sixth child in his family. Rodriguez’s parents were middle-class immigrants from Mexico, who left in the 1920s. In most of his songs he takes a political stance on the cruelties facing the inner-city poor.
Career:

In 1967 (under the name Rod Riguez) he released the single ‘’I’ll Slip Away’’ though the small label ‘Impact’. He didn’t produce anything for another three years until he was signed to Sussex Records; an offshoot of the Buddah label. It was after the move to Sussex he changed his professional name to just Rodriguez. Rodriguez recorded two albums with Sussex – “Cold Fact”, in 1970, and “Coming from Reality” in 1971. But after mixed reviews and low album sales he was later dropped from the label, which would later fold in 1975.
Post career fame:

After the failing to make an impact in America, he gave up his career as a musician. However, although he was relatively unknown in his home country by the mid 70’s, his albums were starting to gain airplay in countries like South Africa, Rhodesia, New Zealand and Australia. Imported copies of his Sussex albums soon ran dry so in the mid 70’s, an Australian record label, Blue Goose Music, bought the Australian rights to his back catalogue. The label released his two studio albums plus a compilation album “At His Best” (featuring unreleased recordings from 1976 “Can’t Get Away, I’ll Slip Away (a re-recording of his first single) and Street Boy). Unbeknownst to Rodriguez it went platinum in South Africa, where he achieved cult status. With a new buzz around Rodriguez, in 1979 he toured Australia with the Mark Gillespie Band as support. Two shows from the tour were later released on the Australian only album “Alive” – the title being a play on the rumours caused by his public obscurity that Rodriguez had died years ago. After the ‘79 tour he returned to Australia for a final tour in 1981 with Midnight Oil before quietly slipping back into normal life. It wasn’t until the late 1990’s (which at the time he was working on a Detroit building site) when his daughter discovered his fame thanks to a South African fan website.
Recent Success:

In 1991 both his albums were released on CD in South Africa for the first time. His fame in South Africa was completely unknown to him, until 1998 when his eldest daugher found a website dedicated to him on the internet. In 1998 he played his first South African Tour. A documentary about the tour Dead Men Don’t Tour: Rodriguez in South Africa 1998 was later screened on SABC in 2001. Later he then played dates in Sweden before returning to South Africa in 2001 and 2005. In 2002 his signature song, Sugar Man, was added to DJ David Holmes’ mix album Come Get It I Got It; gaining Rodriguez airplay again on Australian radio station Triple J. In 2007 he returned to Australia in April, to play the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival as well as shows in Melbourne and Sydney. His song ‘Sugarman’ was in the movie Candy, starring Heath Ledger. There has also been a film made about his life titled, Looking for Jesus. Rodriguez now continues to tour in various countries.

Madeleine Peyroux ,

(born 1974, Athens, Georgia) Peyroux (pronounced ‘Peru’ or ‘Pear-roo’) is noted for her vocal style, which has been compared to that of Billie Holiday.

Peyroux started singing at the age of fifteen, when she discovered street musicians in the Latin Quarter in Paris. She joined a group called the Riverboat Shufflers, first by passing round the hat, and then singing. At sixteen she joined The Lost Wandering Blues and Jazz Band and spent two years touring Europe performing jazz standards.

Bare Bones is the fifth studio album by American jazz singer Madeleine Peyroux. The third album in four years from song interpreter extraordinaire Madeleine Peyroux, Bare Bones is both an extension of the currents of 2004’s Careless Love and 2006’s Half the Perfect World and a bold step into previously unexplored psychological terrain. Produced, like its two predecessors, by Larry Klein, this fluid and enthralling new work is Peyroux’s most personal yet, hardly surprising considering she had a hand in writing each of the 11 songs, marking the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

1. “Instead”
2. “Bare Bones”
3. “Damn the Circumstances”
4. “River of Tears”
5. “You Can’t Do Me”
6. “Love and Treachery”
7. “Our Lady of Pigalle”
8. “Homeless Happiness”
9. “To Love You All Over Again”
10. “I Must Be Saved”
11. “Somethin’ Grand”

India Arie ,

makes Testimony Vol 2 LOVE & POLITICS bears close resemblance, both stylistically and thematically, to its illustrious predecessor. Like TESTIMONY VOL. 1, LOVE & POLITICS impresses with the professionalism of its production, with meticulously interwoven layers of backing vocals that recall the most sumptuous soul productions of the mid `70s. The productions of Stevie Wonder and Gamble & Huff are obvious touchstones for the tasteful strings and subdued Fender Rhodes work of lead single “Chocolate High,” which features vocal contributions from Musiq Soulchild. Though LOVE & POLITICS doesn’t represent a significant departure from the thoughtful, easygoing soul with which Arie has made her name, it includes a few nods to trends in contemporary R&B, most notably the sprightly “Therapy,” which splices Arie’s breezy vocals and gentle fingerpicking on to a propulsive, club-ready beat.

1. Intro: Grains
2. Therapy – (featuring Gramps Morgan)
3. Ghetto
4. Chocolate High – (featuring Musiq Soulchild)

Anastacia – Heavy Rotation

Anastacia ,

(born Anastacia Lyn Newkirk on September 17, 1968) is a multi-platinum American singer and songwriter. Anastacia has been highly successful in Europe, Latin America, Oceania, Asia, South Africa and Australia but has not had as much success in her native United States. Despite the lack of American success, she had sold over 20 million albums by 2005.

Anastacia is world renowned for her edgy, soulful voice and is famous for her ability to hit powerful notes in a full voice range well into Soprano tessituras. Her small stature (160 cm or 5′3″) has also led to her being nicknamed “The Little Lady with The Big Voice”. She was also known for her trademark glasses (often darkly tinted), but she had surgery to correct her vision permanently in August 2005.

She made headlines when diagnosed in 2003 with breast cancer. On April 21, 2007 she married her bodyguard of three years, Wayne Newton, in Mexico. ….More
